I Vant To Suck Your Blood!

After sifting through about a 100 ideas of what to be for Halloween, Covey and I finally decided to go with the traditional "vampire and his date/victim".  We figured this out after going to WalMart and looking through all the costumes that were left over.  When we left, we had some vampire makeup, some black hair paint and a wig in hand.

When I went to work on Friday, I dressed up like a witch like I did last year because I already had everything for it and it didn't take much time to get ready in the morning.  But for the party that night at Shannon and Grayson's, we got all decked out in our vampire gear.  About 15 minutes before we needed to leave, the power went out at our apartment which meant that we had to finish getting ready by candlelight.  (I thought it was kind of funny and strangely fitting that we were getting ready in the dark considering our costume choice...)  I'm happy to say that we finally got ready even though it took a little longer that we planned on.  Here is the end result:

I LOVE the way our costumes turned out!  We didn't have to spend much money but I think the end result was really what we were going for.  Here are some more photos of our costume and the party:

Halloween=Skankiness?

I'm just putting this out there, but why is it that girls think that just because you get to dress up for Halloween means you have to dress like a skank?  This seriously drives me nuts.  I would go so far to say that it is a pet peeve of mine.  I mean, is there something sexy about dressing up like a ladybug with garters?  C'mon people!

I guess I can understand that people want to dress up for Halloween like something other than what they dress like every day, but when you dress like a skank, does that mean that that is what you would dress like if you didn't dress like you do everyday?  Think about it.  I mean, really.  What does that say about you?  You couldn't come up with something more creative than a "sexy witch", or a "sexy firewoman", or a "sexy jellybean"?  No witch, or firewoman or jellybean is going to dress sexy in real life for their job!  Get real!  Use your brain and come up with something at least semi-creative.  Or normal.

What happened to the days when you would dress up like what you wanted to be when you grow up?  Even little kids are jumping on the bandwagon.  They want to dress up like Lady GaGa (skank) or Paris Hilton (slut) or who knows what other supposed "idol" they have.  THAT is their idol?  THAT is what they want to be when they grow up?  And parents let them dress up like that because 'what harm is it going to be if they are only pretending to be that person?'  The harm is that they just may end up dressing like that person when they get a little older because they were allowed to 'dress up' like that person when they were little.

Aristotle said: "We are what we repeatedly do."  Therefore, if every year women dress like skanks for Halloween, eventually, they will probably become a skank.

I will now step off my soapbox.  Thank you for reading.

Olivia Rose

Today, I got to go meet my newest "non-niece", Olivia Rose Erickson.  My good friends, Kristen and Aaron, had their little girl on Friday, and Covey and I got to go see her today.  We totally ditched church after sacrament meeting so that we could go see her while they were still in the hospital.  She is seriously one of the cutest babies I've ever seen and I love her already!  Here are some pics of the new babe.

Free Fun!

Yesterday was a day of free fun!  We went to the Trafalga in Lehi for free and we also went to the BYU game for free.  What luck!  We ended up with the Trafalga passes because Covey's dad had gotten about 20 of them from BYU (he works there).  We weren't sure what kind of stuff was at this Trafalga but decided to try it out.  Besides Covey and I, Bret and Heather brought their whole family (5 kids!) and then Shawn brought his kids plus a couple cousins from his wife's side of the family.  The weather was pretty nice too even though I had to wear a sweatshirt.  We rode on the merry-go-round, a roller coaster and played mini golf.  Here are some pics of the fun:

Cosmo was at Trafalga too

After Trafalga, we went to Golden Corral for lunch and to celebrate Chase and Brooklyn's birthdays (they are siblings whose birthdays are 2 days apart).  Then we ran home to get ready for the BYU game.  Covey had gotten some free tickets to the game from a guy that he works with.  So we decided to go back to our stomping grounds and enjoy the game.  It started to get a little chilly but it was still fun.  The best part is the BYU won the game 24-21.  It was a great day but we were pooped when we finally got home.  Playing is hard work!

We invited Chris and Quinn to come with us

A Quarter of a Century

Alright, so I know this post is a little late, but I just hadn't uploaded any photos from my camera until today.

I had my 25th birthday on the 29th of September.  We didn't really do much to celebrate and that was alright with me.  We had gone to dinner the week before in Salt Lake to celebrate mine and Covey's birthdays.  The day of my birthday, I went to work (yay!) and then we went to dinner at Noodles and Company.  (Covey has decided that that is one of his new favorite places to eat.)  Then we ran a couple of errand and went home.  Also, Covey had bought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers.  He always creates the bouquet from scratch and I love that he does that.  Overall, it was a great day

Early Birthday Present

Last night, Covey surprised me with an early birthday present: a new sewing machine!  I was so happy!  I have been asking for a new sewing machine since about February or so and now I finally have one!  Covey is such a good husband. :)  I am looking forward to becoming all domestic and making things.  I have a whole slew of projects I've been holding off on since I didn't have my own machine.  But now I do so look out!

So happy!

How Fitting...

When Covey and I first found our new apartment, we thought it looked like a castle.  This is mostly because it has a turret and the stone on the outside is in block type shapes, not to mention the balcony.  We then thought it would be funny to say that we were living in the dungeon (the basement) of a castle.

With that bit of introduction, I just wanted to say how fitting it is--living in the dungeon of a castle--that we have discovered MICE in our apartment.  That's right.  Mice.

A few weeks ago, I was sitting on my bed and thought I heard some munching inside the wall.  I thought it was termites and so I had Covey listen as well.  He heard it, but thought it was creaks in the wall or something.
Then, about a week and a half ago, I opened a floor cabinet to get some flour out.  The bag was too heavy for me so I asked Covey to get it.  When he pulled it out, we noticed a hole in the bottom and Covey said he thought it looked like it had been chewed through.  As we looked closer, we found holes in a bunch of cereal boxes and bits of cereal strewn around the inside.  After pulling everything out of the cabinet, we found this:
A nice big hole for mice to come and go as they please into a cabinet full of food.

We were pretty mad about this and so we found a piece of metal and covered up the hole so the mice couldn't get in.  (And trust me, we knew that it was mice.  Little brown poops all over the cabinet floor are a pretty good indication.)  We cleaned out the cabinet, put our food back and went along our merry way.

Unfortunately, this was not the end of the mice.  On Monday morning, Covey opened up the cabinet under the sink (which is next to the cabinet where we'd found the evidence of mice) and found more little brown poops.  Lovely.  Covey actually went out of town on Monday until Tuesday night and when he got back I told him I'd found more mouse evidence in the same cabinet we'd found it in the first time.  So we went through the same motions and pulled everything out of the cabinet to see if we could figure out where the mice were getting in.

We couldn't figure it out.  There were no holes we could find.  We decided it was time to get a mousetrap and kill the little food stealers.  So off to WalMart we went and bought a couple of mousetraps and baited them with peanut butter.

Then we built a barricade on the floor around the cabinets with all of our cleaning products and other things the mice probably wouldn't try to eat and set the traps.  (Covey also called our landlord to let him know about the mice, but we decided to take things into our own hands until an exterminator can come to our house.)
This morning, Covey opened up the cabinets, only to find that the peanut butter had been eaten and there were no mice in the traps.  Fantastic.  You know what that means:

THIS IS WAR!

There will be casualties:
Like this guy here.  He met his fate.  Die, mice!  Die!

27 Years

Today is Covey's 27th birthday!  I just want to say that he is the best husband I could ever ask for.  Not to mention that he is one of the most hard working, dedicated, caring, sincere, loving people that I know.  I love you babe! :)

Peach Days

This weekend, Covey and I went up to Brigham City with my dad to go to their annual Peach Days.  My dad was putting his restored '72 Chevy in the car show and we decided to make a day of it.  Mostly, we looked around at all the cars there.  They had a record breaking show with 1,065 cars entered, which made it the biggest car show in the state!  After a while, all the cars started looking the same, which meant that it was time to go look around the booths up the street and find some peach cobbler (of course).  We also met up with our friend, Kayla, who is from Brigham and was visiting her family for the weekend.  By the end of the day, our feet were tired and we were too, but we'd had an all around good day. :)

Can you see the face in the flames?

I thought this car looked like an alien.

I would love to own this car!

And this one too!

This was the sign that we saw on most cars.  Too bad we couldn't touch them.  They were so pretty and shiny!

This is my dad's '72 Chevy Cheyenne Super.  He bought it back in 1987, started restoring it in 1993 and finished it in about 1999.  He's been adding to it here and there since then.  He loves to enter his truck into car shows.

Not All It's Cracked Up To Be...

So I got a text from one of my friend's last night who had had a bad day at work and wanted someone to go with her to get a pedicure.  It wasn't so much the pedicure that made me want to go, but I'd never had one and so many people have just raved about them that I though that would just be an added bonus to hanging out with my friend.  When I got to the nail place, we walked in and told the people that we wanted a pedicure.  I was excited to get my first pedicure and Courtney told me that I was going to get addicted.

I'll spare the details, but long story short, the pedicure wasn't all it was cracked up to be.  Sure, it was nice to relax with my feet in warm bubbly water, get my calves rubbed down with sugar scrub and have someone else paint my toenails.  But was it worth the $28 ($25 + $3 tip) that I paid?  I think not.  Will I do it again?  Probably not.  Am I addicted?  Not so much.

Lesson learned: You don't have to spend $25 to feel better after a bad day.  Just ask your husband for a foot massage and all will be well.  :)
