March 2015

March was a great month.  The weather started improving dramatically so we spent a lot more time outside and it did wonders for everyone's mood (especially mine).

Work continued on the basement.  We (and by we, I pretty much mean Covey) finished the built in.  Originally when we were deciding what we wanted to do with the basement, we hadn't considered doing built-ins but one day I had an epiphany about shifting the layout of the basement and including a built-in for the TV, plus shelves and drawers.  I told Covey about it and he was sold.  We drew up a plan with all the dimensions, types of wood and sizes, etc.  We were feeling like such awesome architects.  But it was a much bigger project than either of us anticipated and it took much longer than planned to finish.  But finish we did and it looked so good when it was done that even we were impressed.  I am totally going to toot my own horn here and say that everyone who sees it, loves it!  We also starting moving some boxes and bins into the basement from the garage.

We had a random snow day and so Makadie wanted to go play in it of course.  While she was outside, Trey just stood by the back door and watched her.  I knew he wanted to go play, but I am a wimp sometimes and just don't want to deal with the cold.

A couple days later, it warmed up nicely and we were able to spend some time playing in the yard without the snow.

When Covey first started his current job as a product manager, he was over a specific product line that allowed him to participate in a little event down in St. George called the Mini Indy where there is a race track and they race these little amped up go carts.  The first three years he was there, I tagged along with him (and brought Makadie after she was born).  It was a nice escape from the weather up here and we also got to do some fun things and visit my aunt who lives down there too.  Last year, someone else took over the product line so he didn't get to participate.  However, this year he took over the product line again so we got to go!  I was so excited to go, even though he is gone pretty much the whole time, because I really needed a little mini vacation and I knew the kids would love it too.  Plus, my youngest sister was living down there as well as another good friend of mine so I knew there would be plenty to do and we wouldn't be stuck in the hotel the entire time.

We drove down in the morning during Trey's first nap and then made a late lunch stop in Beaver.  We continued on and made it to St. George in time to unload our stuff into the hotel room, eat dinner, get settled and go to bed.  It was the first time all four of us had had to share a space for sleeping and I was a little worried about it.  We decided to put Trey's pack 'n play in the bathroom since it was darkest in there and secluded from the rest of us.  I shared a bed with Kadie and Covey got his own bed.  (They were queen sized beds and Covey and I don't sleep well together on anything smaller than a king...)  Kadie can be kind of a crazy sleeper and was all over the place and so I didn't sleep well because of that and because I was afraid she was going to fall off the bed since her bed at home is right up against the wall.  We barricaded her with pillows and it seemed to work since she didn't fall off.

The next day, we went to the outlets between naps and to dinner with my friend Lisa and then to the park to let the kids play.

The following day was actually Trey's 1st birthday.  I knew Covey was going to be gone for part of the day so I had planned to meet up with my youngest sister, Chey.  We went to the Children's Museum and the loved it!  They had a post office, grocery store, kitchen, farm, a castle with dress ups, sound stage, bubble station, wheelchair basketball, and more that I can't even remember.

Funny story about this orange: Makadie needed to go to the bathroom shortly after we got to the children's museum.  I took her and Trey into the stall and was helping her when I turned around and Trey was eating the orange peel trying to get to the orange.  Yuck!  He was pretty mad when I took it away.

In the afternoon, after Covey got back he took Makadie down to the pool for a little bit while Trey was napping.  Then we decided to go to the temple so Makadie could see it and we could relax a little bit in the sunshine.

The last day, we checked out after Trey's morning nap and then drove up to the old airport where they hold the races to watch for a little while. Since it's not exactly a kid-friendly environment with little cars zooming all around the place, I took the kids and we left to go get some gas and walk around a store.  Before we left the tracks, I had asked Makadie if she needed to go to the bathroom and she said no. She was still having accidents every once in a while and had had a couple while we had been in St. George (probably due to being unfamiliar with where the bathrooms were) and I wanted to try an avoid another one since all of the stuff was now packed up in the car.  Of course, the minute I get her into her car seat she tells me she needs to go.  I was frustrated because I didn't want to get Trey back out of his seat and back into the tracks and try to find Covey to watch Trey so I could take her to the bathroom so...I pulled out her little toilet seat topper we'd brought with us, set it on the gravel on the other side of our car and told her to sit down and pee.  Yep, that's what I did.  I never thought I'd be telling my daughter to pee in the rocks, but there you have it.  And she still remembers that she did that: "Mom, remember when you told me to pee on the rocks?  Can I do that again?"  Ugh!  No.  No you may not.

Covey finally finished with everything and we drove back home.  Why is it that you always seem to need a recovery period after a vacation?  Isn't that why you take a vacation in the first place?  To be fair though, this wasn't really a real vacation.  But it was still fun for sure.  The day after we got back, we had Trey's birthday (separate post).

The weekend after St. George, we went to a local Easter Egg Hunt at a park in Pleasant Grove.  It was a free thing put on by a local real estate agency.  We had been invited last year by some friends who I think knew someone who knew someone who had used their agency.  Or something.  Anyway, we found out about it this year and decided to go because, hey, free stuff and activities for the kids.  We got there at lunch time and then got in line to get Makadie's face painted.  That was a total joke because I think we were in line for 45 minutes and it didn't even move.  Then, the egg hunt was about to start so a bunch of people left the line and I stayed because I thought that I could get her in after the hunt, but the ladies who were doing the face painting left because they'd only been paid to be there a certain length of time and it was past that.  Boo. :(  But Kadie did awesome at the egg hunt and came away with probably 12 eggs.  Before we left, she went down the big blow up slide at least 5 times, which she loved.  She was none too happy when we had to pull her away and carry her to the car.  (Can we say naptime?)  All in all, it was a fun way to spend part of the day.

Plus some bonus pictures:

She dressed herself, can you tell?
