April was a fairly busy month.
At the beginning of the month, I coloring eggs with Makadie. She thought it was fun to see how the eggs changed color when we put them in the dye. Her favorite was painting an egg with "golden paint". However, she didn't really like how hard boiled eggs tasted...
The day before Easter, Covey left to go to China for a week with his MBA class as part of his international relations experience. When Covey first got accepted to the MBA program at UVU, the international experience wasn't part of it, so we were a little frustrated when they sprung it on us, especially because it added about $4000 to the overall tuition. But as it got closer and they provided the itinerary, Covey got more excited. I have to admit, it was pretty cool. I was happy for him that he had the opportunity, but not too thrilled to be home by myself with the kids for a week. I was very grateful for technology that allowed him to video call us and I got a little taste of what it feels like for those families who have a spouse/parent who travels a lot or is in the military. I also got to experience how many single parents feel, even if it was only for a week. Covey wasn't gone for a ridiculous amount of time, but it felt really long when I was doing everything myself. He called at least once a day, sometimes twice. Because we did a video call, he was able to show me around the hotel room and out the window so it kind of felt like I was there. Minus, of course, being there.
Covey got to visit some of the standard attractions while in China, including the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China. While there, he stayed in Beijing and Shanghai. He had some funny stories about the tour bus doing a 12 point turn in the middle of a major road, eating street food and haggling with the vendors. He sent me some crazy pictures and it was fun to see all the neat things he was doing and seeing.

He got home on a Sunday and the kids were ecstatic to see him. I was pretty excited myself. The kids couldn't get enough of him and they just tackled him and rolled all over the floor with him. (Makadie was pretty upset the next day though when she found out Covey had to go to work and be gone all day.)
For Sunday's session of General Conference, I went up to my dad and step-mom's in Herriman, where we watched Conference and then had dinner. I had brought some Easter eggs filled with candy to hide and Makadie had so much fun finding them. I love that she is at the age where she is starting to understand and get excited about holiday activities and traditions.
At the end of the month, we attended the Payson Temple open house. Makadie was so excited to go inside of a temple. It is an absolutely beautiful building. It was a little challenging though because we tried to fit the open house in between dinner and bedtime and so the kids started getting a little rowdy towards the end. We wanted a picture in front of the temple as a family so we asked someone to take them. The kids weren't haven't any of it, but I just told the girl to keep taking pictures. We ended up with some pretty funny ones that were just so real life that they made me laugh.
Makadie and I had a mommy/daughter date to go see Cinderella in the theater. Kadie had never been to a movie in a theater and she actually did pretty well considering the movie was over 2 hours long. The last 20 minutes or so she didn't want to stay in her seat, but there weren't many people in the theater so it turned out alright. She liked the movie and it was fun to share the moment with her. We went to Arby's for lunch afterwards, then home again to the boys.
I also decided to pass along my Barbies to Kadie. Yes, I have kept them since I was little and the clothes totally show it, but she doesn't even care. She loved changing the clothes and dressing them and pretending with them. It was totally a picture perfect moment for me watching her with my old dolls.
Trey is developing such a fun personality. He is much more adventurous than Makadie when it comes to getting into things. Maybe he just gets into more because I'm more distracted. Maybe he's just a boy and that's what they do. Or it could be a combination of all three!
Plus a few more random photos for good measure:
4-wheelin' it with the neighbor boy...
"I'm a rock and roll Kadie all day!"
There are 9 months between Trey and my nephew, Jackson, but you'd never know it based on their height...
Sad face
Puffer fish face
Tiger growl face
