March Catch Up

I am seriously kicking myself for not staying up-to-date with the things going on in our lives.  I swear my memory recall has been reduced since I had Makadie...  So here is what I can remember from March. :)

The weather started to warm up a bit, which was awesome because then we could go outside more.  We started working in the yard to prep it for plants and got our garden boxes ready for planting.  The weather in March is always if-y so some days were great and other days I wanted to pull my hair out from being stuck in the house.

Makadie turned 14 months old.  I swear she was just growing overnight!  She got a couple more teeth in which wasn't fun for anyone.  I hear that teething doesn't bother some kids at all and others it really does.  Makadie is one of the latter.  Of course, I don't blame her for being cranky.  Growing teeth is hard work!  She also got better at communicating what she wanted, although her vocabulary was still limited to "mama" and "dad" and a few other words, like "Elmo".  :)

She also started to become more mobile.  Even though she was kind of wobbly, she didn't let that stop her.  If she fell over though, she had to crawl over to someone or something in order to pull herself back up.  Her newly discovered mobility also meant more baby-proofing.  Opening drawers and cabinets is one of her favorite things to do.  Toilet paper rolls are no longer safe from her.  We've had to start closing all the doors to prevent her from wreaking havoc on whatever she gets her little hands and teeth on.

The end of the month was much more eventful.  We had the opportunity to go down to St. George again with Covey for his work.  This is the third year we've gone down and it is always such a nice break to get out of the crappy weather and go somewhere different.  Last year, Makadie was only a couple months old when we went and that made it a little more difficult since we had to stop to feed her more and I was limited in my activities there.  But this year, the weather was absolutely beautiful and Makadie was big enough to do some things.  The drive down was better too, because we turned her car seat around to face forward.  She seriously loved it and was kicking her legs and jabbering like crazy.

One of the days, we met up with my Aunt Sue who lives down there and went to lunch one day and then to a little splash pad they have down there that was perfect for Makadie.  She wasn't so sure about it at first, but the more she played, the more fun she had.  She was one tired girl by the time we made it back to the hotel for her nap.

Later that night, there was a dinner where all the groups participating in the Mini Indy can dress up and compete for best costume, best car design, etc.  Makadie didn't take a great nap and was pretty tired (as evident from the picture).

One frustrating thing about the trip was that since we were just in one big hotel room, there wasn't really anywhere to put Makadie's pack 'n play that was away from where I was, so she couldn't see me.  Finally, I tried to fit it into the bathroom, but it was a few inches too narrow.  Bummer.  So Makadie didn't sleep as well as she did at home, but at least she took her naps right? :)

On the last day of the trip, Covey had some things scheduled with his work, so that left Makadie and I to entertain ourselves.  It was really windy that day, which made being outside difficult.  I decided to look around the mall and outlets a bit and found some really cute clothes that I was pretty happy about.  Poor Makadie wasn't able to fall asleep in the car though and she was so tired by the time we started home that she finally zonked out.  She was a trooper, though.

On a side note, Covey's work group ended up winning the competition for the second year in a row.  Their theme was Sgt. Pepper and their car was supposed to be a Yellow Submarine.  :)

Another fun thing we did was go to Chuck E Cheese's to celebrate my sister-in-law's daughter's 2nd birthday.  Makadie was completely intrigued by all the noises and lights.  She had a blast!  There weren't too many rides she was big enough for, but the ones she did go on were fun for her.

We also celebrated Easter at the end of the month.  I got Makadie a few little things from the dollar store: big crayons, a coloring book, some board books, flash cards and a little shirt.  Since our ward doesn't start until 11:00, we had a little time in the morning to play and relax before going to church.  Makadie was still on a two-nap schedule and her morning nap fell right before 11:00, so Covey and I have been alternating who goes to sacrament meeting.  It's been a while since we've been to sacrament together, which is a bummer, but having a well-rested baby sure makes the day a lot smoother.

After church, we went up to my dad and step-mom's house for dinner.  I brought some empty Easter eggs to "hide" for Makadie.  She didn't quite get the concept and was frustrated that we kept telling her to pick up the eggs.  Oh well.  Next year she'll understand better.  Overall, it was a really nice, relaxing day.  I love Easter and all that it represents.  What a beautiful gift!

That is about it for the month of March.  I've included some additional pictures of some of the random, day-to-day moments that are part of our life with a busy body baby girl.

She actually let me braid her hair while she was watching Elmo.  (Funny enough, she hasn't let me braid it again since!)

More trouble

Bubbles!  We bought Makadie a bubble maker and she wasn't quite sure what to make of it, but now she asks for "bubbles" all the time.
