In April, the weather started to improve so Makadie and I went outside as much as possible. I love that we have a yard! The only bad thing was that we didn't get our fence in until the end of the month and Makadie loved to go into everyone else's yard, so I was chasing her back into our yard a lot. She loved wandering into our backyard neighbor's yard though because they have a dog and she would yell, "pup, pup" when she saw him. If she saw him out the back door, she just begged to go outside. We did get our fence put in at the end of the month though, and it was so awesome to be able to go into the yard and let Makadie roam a little more free. At least she couldn't wander into others yards. :)
Makadie turned 15 months old this month! Besides getting so big and growing so much, one thing she loved to do was try to use a spoon to feed herself. Oh, the messes she made! But it was so cute and funny to watch her try. She got a couple more teeth, which allowed her to eat a bigger variety of foods. Sometimes I would ask her "Can mommy have a bite?" and she would get a big smile on her face and put whatever it was she was eating in mine or Covey's mouth, then she would laugh when we'd eat it and say, "yum".
Another thing that I love is that her little sense of humor is emerging. She loves playing peek-a-boo, hiding behind things (like my clothes in the closet) and putting spaghetti on her head to get us to laugh. I love seeing her sweet little personality and bright smile everyday!
One night when we were out in the front yard enjoying some of the nice weather, I was talking to my neighbor across the street. About a minute later, I hear a scream and I knew before I even turned around that Makadie had fallen on the sidewalk. I ran over to her and there was blood on her face but her teeth and tongue looked fine so we got her inside and tried to gently wipe her face off. She just screamed and cried and it was so sad. Even watching her favorite show, Elmo, didn't make her feel better. :( Her poor little lip swelled up and I could see that she was going to have a couple of nice scrapes on her nose and lip the next day. When it came time to get her to bed, we tried to lay her down, but she just cried because she couldn't get comfortable. She sleeps with a little cow blanket and she likes to put the corner in her mouth, but that hurt her mouth. I picked her up and rocked her for an hour before she fell asleep in my arms. Next morning, she felt better, but her little lip and nose was all scabbed over. It made me sad. :( But within a couple of days, she was back to her happy self. I love how resilient kids are.
Towards the end of the month, we went to an awesome park in Saratoga Springs for my nephew's birthday. Makadie loved playing on the swings and slides and running around in the open space. She was still pretty clumsy on her feet trying to walk in the wood chips, but she loved being around all the kids. Her cousins just love her and always want to hold her and play with her.
Makadie started to lose a little more of her baby chub from all the running and playing she was doing. Her hair is growing like crazy too. I look back at pictures of when she was a baby and she did have a lot of hair for a baby, but it's filling in now and growing so much longer. I've been able to do a little more with it besides just a clip trying to keep it out of her face. Of course, when I fix it, she looks even older. It has been so fun to see her get bigger but some days I just want to yell, "Stop growing up so fast!" She is too smart for her own good sometimes. She got frustrated sometimes because although she was learning a lot of new words, they weren't enough to allow her to communicate with us like she wanted to.
