Month Five

Good heavens!  Makadie is almost 6 months old and here I am writing about 5 months.  Time just goes so fast.  So here is the update on Makadie's 5th month of life:
  • She started blowing spit bubbles
  • She likes both the sitting and standing positions.  She would much rather be up so she can look around than on her back.
  • She is a lot more vocal.  She babbles to herself, and other people, sometimes.  We notice she is a lot more "talkative" when there are other voices around besides Covey and I--like at church or if the TV is on.  She also does this funny high pitched yell.  I wondered where she learned to do that until I found myself making a similar noise to her.  Babies are quick learners!
  • When she sees something she wants, she reaches for it.  Or rather, she would reach in the general direction of the object.  :)  (She has got a ton better at this recently!)
  • She is so much better in her car seat!  Before she would start crying the minute she realized that's where she was going, but now she doesn't mind it so much and will even go 30 minutes sometimes without a sound!
  • We borrowed my sister in law's Bumbo and Makadie loves it--especially when she was first wanting to sit up all the time.

  • We continuing sleep training with her.
  • We started on Makadie on rice cereal.  I noticed that she seemed to be really interested whenever I got food for myself and would sometimes try to reach for it.  So I thought, 'what the heck' and decided to see if she wanted to eat something other than mom's milk.  She loved it!

  • Makadie had her first ride in stroller without having to sit in her car seat.  While she was still pretty small in the stroller, I could tell she like it so much more than having to sit in her car seat--probably because she could look around better.
  •  She rolled from her tummy to her back.  She actually did this once about a week before she hit her 5 month mark, but then she didn't do it again for another week.  Now, she is a pro.  :)  We are still working on the back to tummy roll.  It's so much more interesting to be on her back, that she's rather roll from her tummy to back than the other way around.
  • Makadie is not one to laugh a lot.  She will get big smiles on her face when you do something she likes, but all of the normal things that get babies to laugh don't necessarily work with her.  So I was really surprised when she giggled one day when I was "eating" her neck and stomach.  It is the cutest thing when she does it.
  • She found her feet!  Once she found them, she was always trying to hold onto them.  Too funny.
  • Covey celebrated his first official Father's Day!  Covey absolutely loves being a dad and he was excited to be able to have another reason to celebrate Father's Day.
  • People always comment on one of two things when they see her: her hair and her tongue.  The girl is always sticking it out!
  • Makadie's hair is getting long.  Pretty soon we aren't going to be able to do her mohawk hair. :(  When we were over at my step-sister's house about a month ago, she wanted to fix Makadie's hair into pigtails.  I don't know how many 5 month olds have enough hair to have ponytails, but mine does!

Here are a few more cute photos of my girl:
