Crazy Camping Catastrophe

A couple of weeks ago we were talking with some friends about going camping this summer.  Turns out that the only time that everyone could do it was Father's Day weekend.  We decided to go somewhere close and chose Hobble Creek Canyon (in Springville/Mapleton area).  Covey and I went up driving on Thursday night to scope out a good spot for camping and found one pretty easily.  The next day, Dan and Kanessa picked us up and we drove to WalMart to get some food for the trip, met up with Ben and Erica and then we were on our way.
With the amount of stuff that we brought, you'd think we were leaving for a week and not just overnight!

When we got up to the camping spot we'd found the day before, someone was already there setting up their camp. :(  So we drove up a little further and found another spot that wasn't quite as good, but would still work and started unloading.

After bringing everything up from our cars, we got a fire ready and put our tin foil dinners on.  They were so good!  There is nothing like tin foil dinners while camping.

After dinner, everyone just relaxed and chatted.  Slowly everyone went off to bed except Covey, Ben and Dan who wanted to play some games.  Right as I was getting ready to go into our tent for the night at around 11pm, another group was setting up camp close by.  Little did we know that this was going to be the start of a long night...

To make a very long story short enough to post in a blog, the group next to us stayed up until 2:30am laughing, swearing, yelling and running past our camp.  It was pretty obvious that they were drunk.  No one, with the exception of Dan, Kanessa and Hunter, slept through it.  Ben and Erica took their kids and drove home at about 2 am after going and talking to them and asking them to quiet down.  Covey went and talked to them (more like yelled at them) at 2:30am telling them to go to sleep and be more considerate of those around them.  They were a little quieter after that and went to sleep at about 3am.

We finally fell asleep but that was short lived.  I woke up at 4am to the sound of crackling branches.  I could have sworn that there was a bear in our camp and I was pretty freaked out.  I just kept hoping that whatever was out there wasn't going to come anywhere near anyone's tent--especially mine.  About 30 minutes later, Covey's phone starts ringing and it was Dan calling from his tent.  Covey lost the connection and Dan came over to the tent telling us that there was a crazy drunk guy in our camp that had decided to build a huge fire in our fire pit.  So Covey and Dan went to talk to him.  He didn't know where he was or what he was doing.  All he knew is that he was trying to "find Clint".  Covey and Dan directed him away from our camp and listened to him crashing through the woods for the next 30 minutes.

Finally, I was able to fall asleep at about 4:30am, but I woke up at 8:30am feeling like crap.  I got up to help with breakfast.  Breakfast was the perfect thing to help everyone feel a little better after such a long night.  Dan and Kanessa had brought their dutch oven and we cooked bacon and eggs in it.  Covey and I had brought a little oven that could be used with a butane stove and made biscuits.  Everything was so yummy!

All in all, it was a good camping trip if you minus the crazy drunk people all around our camp and the lack of sleep that we got as a result.  I'm sure we'll be going camping again soon, but this time, we'll be sure to pick a camping spot far, far away from where anyone else could possibly want to go. :)

That seriously that was such a crazy night! Is there anyway you could email me the pictures you took?! They are so cute. I'm glad you were able to get snap shots here an there. I'm just glad that our other stuff didn't get stolen out of the back of the car. :/

Yeah, I still can't believe how weird it all was... I can email the photos to you, or you can just click on the photo in my blog and it will load the high res version of it and you can save it to your computer. Let me know if you still want me to send them to you in a separate email. :)
