Month Eleven

I'm thinking I need to get this post up before Makadie's first birthday (which is in a week!).  So here goes...
  • She can tip her sippy cup back to drink.  For a while there, she had to be laying down when she drank, or if she was sitting up, someone had to hold it.  Then one day, she just figured it out!
  • She claps her hands all the time, especially when we say "yay!"
  • Makadie waves all the time at people and objects.  When we are at the store, she'll just wave at people (whether they are looking or not), and she gets the biggest grin on her face when they wave back at her.
  • She has had some separation anxiety.  Mostly it's been when I leave the room, even if Covey is there with her or holding her.  I know this is pretty typical, but I know what moms mean when they say they just want to be able to go to the bathroom by themselves! :)
  • Makadie is getting so big!  I swear she wakes up some mornings and she literally grew overnight.
  • She is curious about everything.  She always wants to be where I am and to see what I'm doing.
  • She has been doing lots of cruising around the couch.  We have a sectional and an ottoman and we just push the ottoman up against the couch so she has a little u-shaped area to just cruise back and forth around.  She has become quite a pro!
  • Even though Makadie has shown a desire to be standing since she was about 4 months, she hasn't started walking yet.  However, she is becoming more brave about reaching out towards me and Covey and kind of falling into our laps.
  • In addition, she actually can take a couple of small steps but not consistently.  I guess it kind of just depends on her mood or something...
  • She has started to do a funny little army crawl where she only uses one arm and her legs to push herself across the floor.  The other arm kind of gets stuck under her body, then she pulls it out and starts all over again.  I'm not sure if she'll ever do a "real" crawl before she decides to start walking.
  • We celebrated Thanksgiving during month eleven.  I made her a cute little turkey onesie that lasted for about 3/4 of the day before it started to come apart, which was my fault because I didn't have time to sew around the edges of the applique.  But she looked cute!

Makadie's cousins, Kinsey and Cooper, who totally love her and always ask if they can hold her.

  • Now that we've given Makadie the freedom from her half-body swaddle, she has decided she likes to wiggle out of her blanket all the time.  Covey and I usually go into her room before we go to bed and she is curled up in the corner, or on her stomach, or her knees (??).  We've found that if we don't move her back to the center of her crib, she wakes up in the middle of the night because she can't figure out how to get back to where her blanket is.

  • She wants to feed herself as often as possible.  Where she used to let us put finger food into her mouth, if we do that, she usually spits it into her hand, looks at it, then puts it back her mouth.  It's much less messy to just let her feed herself (usually).  She eats all kinds of food now, but I will be happy when we get the go-ahead from the doctor so we can feed her more types of food.  Sometimes it gets old to always have to fix her a separate meal from myself.  She loves most food, except for mashed potatoes.  I don't really blame her though, because we can't put any butter or salt/pepper on it to make it taste good and I think the texture throws her off a little too.
  • Using our scale here at home, we figure that she weighs about 18 lbs.  She is 2 1/2 times her birth weight (7lb 4oz), and she is about 26 inches tall.
  • Makadie has started to become more interested in her toys.  She especially loves to smack two objects together.

  • Since she has got a couple of teeth on the bottom, we decided we should try and get her used to having her teeth brushed.  She doesn't mind it, but thinks it is a game, so some nights are more difficult than others to actually get them brushed well.  She will purse her lips together or put her tongue over her teeth so we can't get the brush in her mouth.
  • She started doing this funny thing where she will whisper if you whisper to her.  She doesn't do it every time, but when she does, it is pretty funny.
  • She is quite the talker!  She is always making some noise or other and every once in a while we get a "mom" or "dad" in between all the jibberish.  She still says "bup" all the time, but I haven't figured out what that means.  She seems to say it more when there is music or singing on.
  • Makadie is also beginning to understand more of what we say to her and she recognizes certain words and phrases.
As always, more photos of the month in review.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do any "official" 11 month photos.  We had some crazy snow storms and taking them outside wasn't really an option, and I don't have anywhere to really take them inside (yet).

We got this hat for her for Christmas, but I couldn't resist putting it on her when we got it in the mail.  Isn't she cute?!
